God, how would you have me be in the world today?

God, how would you have me be in the world today?
Be welcoming and open,
like the meadows and the plains.
Hold on to nothing, and meet all
without judgement or opinion.
Be a container for others to inhabit.
Let them hear and see themselves
through your clear and open spirit.
Invite with your eyes, heart, and speech.
Be a resting pace for the sojourners
you meet today.
Refresh with your encouragement,
purify with your hope,
nourish with your trust,
strengthen with your faith.
Let the borders of your being extend outward;
make a safe place for others
to roam, rest, and replenish.
All are welcome. All are welcome.

God, what would you have me say or do today?

God, what would you have me say or do today?
Do what brings peace.
Let your words bring peace.
Now here comes the tricky part.
You do not know what will bring peace to another;
you must trust my guidance.
You also might not know what will bring you peace.
The only real peace is found in total surrender-
to divine wisdom, love and care.
Only I can hold your uncertainty, pain, and doubt
and transform them to perfect peace.
To act peacefully is to serve me.
To speak peacefully is to let go
of your ego and allow a higher mind to emerge.
Let divinity in today…and peace will come out.
Will you do this?

God, what would you have of me today?

God, what would you have of me today?
I would have your heart of love,
your outpouring of compassion and care.
You are about others today.
Give. Let others feel your availability.
There will be time and room for your own work.
Share yourself.
Be a beautiful soul.
Serve others today and
do not hold back your kindness.
How you make others feel is what is important.
Be beautiful, and see how the world
responds.
Let your heart-forces bless all who cross your path.
Evening Reflection
I felt guided to ask a question that has come up a few times before: What would you have of me? It differs from What should I do, say or be like? in that it implies that the Creator can receive and use our open hearts for divine purposes.
Today was a wonderful demonstration of this.
A friend needed support in dealing with a person from whom she wanted to distance herself. The courage and self-compassion that my friend had to display in order to say No was tremendous.
It was a heavy workday, but there is nothing like being there for someone in need. Letting my friend know that I recognized the strength it took to stand strong, encouraged and affirmed her.
I got back to my work with a sense of having been, at least for a while, a beautiful soul for someone else.
That is a hard feeling to beat.

God, what would you have me do, say or be like today?

God, what would you have me do, say or be like today?
Be patient.
Endure your frustrations patiently and
release them to my care.
By doing so you will receive grace
and your spirit will transform.
Know there is great love always flowing.
Open yourself
and allow love to enter your depths.
Breathe it in deeply and
receive it with humility and thanks.
Carry your burdens quietly today
and remember how blessed you really are.
Remember that love is patient and kind.
It does not hold on to wrongs done to you.
Give thanks for all things today
-and let yourself be loved.

God, what would you have me do, say or be like today?

God, what would you have me do, say or be like today?
Today, just be
human.
Simply be,
without trying to stand out in some way.
Make being courteous and kind your agenda.
Notice your thoughts
but don’t make too much of them.
Just notice them.
Breathe smoothly. Imagine the world
as a deeply loved family member
or an innocent child.
Be gentle with yourself today,
and share that gift of soul
in all you do and say.
Accept the beauty and uniqueness
of your humanity today.
Feel the inner glow of life itself and
look outward to see…
…to see just how amazing being human is.
Evening Reflection
Being conscious of my humanity today was comforting and even freeing. And as complicated as being human is, it was refreshing to live the day stripped down to being courteous, kind, and non-judgmental.
Conscious breathing can, by itself, make me aware of the precious gift of being alive.
Practicing seeing the world as a loved one or as an innocent child was both challenging and beautiful. There arose within me a sense of forgiveness for the wrongs of life. There came compassion for the earth, for how it holds our journeys, sorrows, pains, wars, and tragedies. Love for the earth welled up, along with the thought that it could truly become a place we all love; a place where we love and care for all things.
Yes, today was a beautiful reminder that being human is rare and beautiful-it is a unique privilege.
What was your experience.

God, what would you have me do, say or be like today?

God, what would you have me do, say or be like today?
Be a soft cushion.
Allow all things
to rest comfortably with you and in you.
Take things as they come and do not
rush them.
Let them linger
or leave as they will.
Work diligently without hurry.
Have calm faith
that all that need to be accomplished
will be.
Take in the beauty of the day.
Pause.
Relax and appreciate yourself.
Be grateful for the time you have for your work.
Pause,
and breathe deeply.
Pause,
and take your time.
Love the day; let it caress you.
Bask in the gift of being.
Find silence and immerse yourself in it,
even if only for a moment or two.
Let quiet hold you softly today,
and be a soft cushion for others.
Evening Reflection
Today’s guidance was apropos, as the day was filled with surprises and altered plans. My wife and I were preparing to watch an NBA playoff game on television when we got a frantic call from one of our daughters-she had lost the keys to her car. Soft cushion time. My wife quickly opted to deliver the spare keys while I stayed home with our 12 year old son and his friend who were making loud and joyful noise with their antics. She knew she was getting the better deal here.
Being a soft cushion helped me to stay peaceful and thus helped my daughter stay calm in the midst of one of life’s unplanned happenings. I spoke steadily and calmly to her on the phone, confident that things would be well-and already were.
As for spending precious time with my wife, we decided to record the game and view it later. Soft cushion for us.
As the lost car key event turned out to be an hours long adventure, I was alone much of this day. I took the opportunity to follow the guidance further by immersing myself in the silence of my office. I had plenty of opportunity to breathe deeply and feel what might be calling me. I paid bills, organized my desk, and threw away lots of unneeded papers, while enjoying the boys on and off. Then my other daughter called to say she had cancelled her plans to visit us soon. Soft cushion time again. I supported her decision while letting her know I would look forward to seeing her next time she was available. It was my opportunity to practice letting things be what they are without interfering.
Being a soft cushion is a very useful way to be-especially on days like today.
How did you fare?

God, what would you have me do, say or be like today?

God, what would you have me do, say or be like today?
Be patient.
Let things develop at a pace that suits
the rhythm of the endeavour.
Relax and watch.
Watch and enjoy.
Let go of the need to make the day’s progress
match your own speed.
Allow the pace of faith to govern.
Watch creation’s unfolding with joy,
gratitude, and appreciation.
Know that you do not have to do things
by yourself.
There is a higher power.
Feel it flowing through you.
Let it lead and guide.
Float along on its strength, wisdom, and love.
Ride the day
like the child of the universe you are.
Ride the day with awe and wonder.
See amazing things
as you journey.

God, what would you have me do, say or be like today?

God, what would you have me do, say or be like today?
Be fresh air,
clean spirit,
and pure soul.
Let your words be life-giving and uplifting.
Let your eyes sparkle with delight.
What delight?
The delight of being alive,
of being loved and cared for by
me…the one who gave you life.
Smile with your whole being today.
How?
By breathing deeply and relaxing,
by being thankful for the gift of your life,
by letting go of tension or anxiety.
Do not force it. Let it happen
in it’s own way, as it will.
And it will.
Just breathe deeply, and slowly, and let it go.
When you enjoy the lightness of your being
others will enjoy you
and be refreshed.
A beautiful day awaits…
Are you ready?
Evening Reflection
I usually carry the guidance in my pocket and read it several times during the day. But I changed pants today and forgot to take the guidance out of my pocket.
I attended an honouring ceremony for students who had finished up a period of gruelling training. The ceremony was small and intimate. I was a new face in this setting and could have easily felt out of place, but I remembered enough of the guidance and focused on being fresh air sparkling with delight. As funny as that may seem, the image was enough to invoke the lightness of my own being, which in turn helped me to not focus on the awkwardness of feeling like an outsider or stranger and thus enjoy the beautiful ceremony.
Once the ceremony ended, I used the images to ease my inner angst. I was able to smile, start conversations, and introduce myself without feeling awkward or uncomfortable.
